Biography for Terri McCormick

My FamilyLegislative Experience

Representative Terri McCormick chairs the Assembly Economic Development Committee, and last session, she chaired the special Speaker’s Task Force on Local Government Health Partnerships. She is vice-chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee and has served on the Insurance, Public Health, Education Reform, and Transportation committees. Rep. McCormick traveled to Ireland to personally learn more about that nation’s exciting, economic development policies from Speaker Rory O’Hanlon and members of the Irish Parliament.

Professional Experience

Prior to election to the Legislature in 2000, Rep. McCormick founded the Leadership Solutions Institute, Educational Consultants, Ltd., and Education Services, Inc. Before launching these innovative companies, she was an instructor and consultant at Xavier High School and St. Joseph Middle School in Appleton, WI. Rep. McCormick also served as the founder and president of the Wisconsin Charter School Association.

Education and Additional Training

Rep. McCormick holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where she graduated Magna cum Laude. She earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Marian College in Fond du Lac, WI, and an education certificate from Appleton’s Lawrence University. Rep. McCormick has completed graduate work in political theory at the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario. She also was the U.S. delegate to the International Peace Institute at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. She is a graduate of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce leadership training program and the prestigious 2002 Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development. Rep. McCormick is a Wisconsin Truman Scholar.

Community Activities

Rep. McCormick is the past chairman of the District Citizen Advisory Council, which facilitated the building of a much-needed third Appleton School District High School, as well as augmenting literacy, parental involvement, and special education program needs. She was also a member of both the Winnebago County Farm Bureau and American Legion Auxiliary. She was an award-winning Mock Trial Coach at Xavier High School and is currently a member of St. Pius X Parish.
